TRY A DECISION

A flush draw faces a bet

40 BB effective

You defended your big blind with 9♥ 8♥ against a button raise. On J♥ 7♥ 2♣ the button bets 3 BB into a 6 BB pot. Your move.

Pick a line. You’ll see the verdict, the reasoning and the math, exactly as every Academy scenario explains itself.

HOW IT WORKS

Learn poker concepts. Practise each decision.

A loop you can run every day: learn one idea, practise it under pressure, then play full hands with training chips and review what happened.

  1. 01

    Learn the idea

Short courses across 17 modules, from your first seat to tournament play. Build the core first, then choose specialist tracks as their prerequisites unlock.

    • Rules, rankings and position first
    • Pot odds, ranges and bet sizing next
    • Turn, river and tournament craft later
  2. 02

    Practise the decision

A scenario states the position, stacks, board and action. You choose a line and get the verdict, the reasoning and a grade that goes into your record.

    • Preflop, flop, turn and river spots
    • Explanations you can revisit any time
    • A decision-quality record, not a score
  3. 03

    Play and review

Sit in a six-seat tournament against five playing styles, then rebuild any hand in the Analyzer to check the math and save what you learned.

    • Timed turns, showdowns and hand history
    • Replay with pot odds and made hands
    • Progress built from what you actually did

EXAMPLE · REVIEWING A TURN BET

I had Q♠ Q♥. On K♣ 7♦ 4♥, my opponent called my bet. The turn was 2♠. They checked, so I bet big to protect my queens. Was that a mistake?

I’d usually check here. A smaller pair, like tens, needs one of the two remaining tens to beat you. A big bet may make that hand fold, while a player with a king often calls. Your “protection” bet risks building a bigger pot against a better hand. Keep the pot smaller, then reassess on the river.

QUESTIONS

Straight answers before you sit down.

Is this gambling?

No. Pokerista Academy is an online poker training app, not a gambling app. It uses simulated training chips with no monetary value: no real-money stakes, gambling deposits, cash-outs or prizes. Membership fees buy access to learning content, never a wager or an entry to win money. The Academy is for adults aged 18 or over who have reached the age of legal majority where they live.

Is this advice for real-money play?

No. Lessons, ranges, scenario feedback and AI responses are study material that teaches you how to think through a decision away from the table. They are not personalized gambling, betting or financial advice, or instructions for a live game. Do not use the Academy for real-time assistance, and do not treat practice scores as a prediction or guarantee of winnings.

I have never played. Can I start from zero?

Yes. The Foundations module begins with the rules, hand rankings and the flow of a hand. Each course ends with knowledge checks. Core courses unlock sequentially; specialist tracks open as you complete their prerequisites.

How are the strategies built?

Practice scenarios are built from decision models the Academy has written, with clear assumptions and a worked explanation of every answer. Rather than handing you solver charts to copy, the Academy teaches the reasoning behind each decision, so you can adapt it to the spot in front of you. The range charts are study material built on the same principles.

What is Tournament Prep?

A Pro warm-up before a live or online tournament. Each preparation asks ten hands, one for each spot from the first level to the final table: blinds and antes, opening and big-blind defence, drawing prices, turn and river decisions, short-stack all-ins, all-in rules and payout pressure. No hand repeats within a preparation, a recent miss comes back as a new hand on the same idea, and every preparation ends with a saved recap. Satellite and bounty formats are not covered.

What does the AI Coach do?

Pro members can ask the Coach about a lesson, a scenario or a recorded Arena move and get a clear explanation in plain language. It draws on your messages and the relevant study context, and a monthly amount of coaching is included. The Coach is optional: courses, scenarios, the Arena and the Analyzer work fully without it. Like any AI, it can make mistakes, so check important explanations against the course material, and keep sensitive personal information out of your prompts. Read the Privacy notice for how Coach data is processed.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Courses, scenarios, the Arena and the Analyzer are built for phones and laptops alike, and your progress is saved to your account, so you can switch devices at any time.
